Argyll and Bute Council covers the second largest geographical area of any Scottish local authority. It has six towns and 26 inhabited islands covering an area of 6,909 square kilometres. Argyll and Bute has a population of 91,390. There are 98 publicly funded schools, including 85 primaries, 10 secondaries and 3 special schools. 11,981 pupils attend these schools, including 6,263 primary pupils, 5,680 secondary pupils and 38 special needs pupils.
