6. Understanding local needs

6.1 Introduction

"The resources provided to support CLD and how they are targeted should be underpinned by needs assessments undertaken with local communities and informed by use of statistical and other information" (Scottish Government).

Working and Learning Together, Scottish Government

If you want to make sure that equalities groups receive appropriate CLD provision in your area, it is firstly important to gain an understanding of the needs of different communities. This applies whether you are planning CLD activity at a strategic, local authority wide level, or delivering services at a front-line or more local level. All elements of CLD activity should be strongly underpinned by a clear understanding of the needs that you are trying to meet.
