2. Community learning and development context

2.1 What is community learning and development?

Community learning and development is a way of working with and supporting communities. It essentially covers any activity which involves working with people and communities to build their skills and experiences, to access the opportunities available to them, and to become involved in decisions that affect them.

The Scottish Government has defined CLD as:

"a way of working with communities to increase the skills confidence networks and resources they need to tackle problems and grasp opportunities…to help individuals and communities to tackle real issues in their lives through community action and community based learning."
