8. CLD activity with equalities groups

8.1 Introduction

One of the main reasons for developing this resource is the recognition that many CLD staff and volunteers in Scotland want to expand or improve their work with equalities groups. Many people in the CLD field feel that work with equalities groups should be a core part of their activities. However, consultation and research indicates that often people want a little bit more help and guidance on working with equalities groups, to make sure that the activities they are undertaking are appropriate and valuable.

This section sets out some of the main issues which need to be borne in mind when working with equalities groups. The section is split into four key themes:

This section draws strongly on consultation with equalities groups and CLD staff and volunteers. A range of case study examples and quotes are included, aimed at helping you to learn from the experiences of others.

There are different ways in which you could use this section. It can be used as a source of useful tips, to dip into when you need a bit of extra guidance. It can be read as a whole, for those who are beginning to develop their activities with equalities groups. It could also be used to form part of a training programme or awareness raising sessions, taking different parts of the resource as a discussion point.
