Putting policy into practice

Putting policy into practice

The Community Learning and Development team at Learning Connections supports the implementation of Scottish Executive policy and the development of good practice in CLD through a range of programmes, working with CLD Partnerships across Scotland and with key national agencies.

Support for putting policy into practice

The Scottish Executive's guidance for CLD Working and Learning Together to Build Stronger Communities sets out "a long term framework for the promotion and development of CLD".

Supporting effective implementation of "Working and Learning Together to Build Stronger Communities" is a key priority for Learning Connections.

Working and Learning Together to Build Stronger Communities set out the Scottish Executive's expectation that all Community Planning Partnerships would produce CLD Strategies setting out their joint vision and framework for operational planning of CLD.

Learning Connections works in partnership with, and aims to support, a number of key networks for the community learning and development field.

  • Community Learning and Development Lead Officers meetings
  • Community Learning and Development Managers Scotland
  • Community Development Alliance Scotland
  • Voluntary Sector CLD Support Partnership

Learning Connections launched the CLD Performance Information Project in October 2004. It aims to support the development of improved performance information in community learning and development.

We support good practice in CLD training in a number of ways; key areas of work include:

  • Quality assurance of training for CLD: assisting the CeVe Committee to carry out endorsements of Community Education courses.
  • Supporting the CLD Work-based and Part-time Training Consortium

We support the implementation of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework in community learning and development.

Learning Connections has published Building Community Capacity: resources for CLD practice, an on-line guide to help CLD practitioners build community capacity.

Promoting equalities through CLD is a key priority for Learning Connections. We have commissioned work to scope the range and nature of equalities work in CLD.

Learning Connections has also been working in partnership with BEMIS (Black and Ethnic Minorities Infrastructure Scotland).

Working and Learning Together to Build Stronger Communities (WALT) support grant initiatives

Support for the voluntary sector, training & development and ICT.

The following reports have been produced as a resource to partnerships to provide feedback and analysis on the WALT support grant initiatives. They contain a summary of how grant money was used by partnerships, as well as lists of key contacts.

The Learning for Community Practice Programme

This programme supports the development of the skills needed across occupational sectors for participation in decision making and service delivery. Learning Connections is preparing to publish a report, commissioned from the Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) which includes a curriculum development framework for community engagement practice.
