Innovations in ICT and Literacies was launched in March 2004 to provide financial support for those working in adult literacies to identify, develop and pilot innovative and effective ways of using ICT to support literacies learning. Over the past 3 years, a range of different projects have been funded. This encouraged partnerships to experiment with new uses of ICT in literacies programmes.
Learning Connections contributed towards equipment and / or staff costs and worked with project staff to help develop and pilot ideas with literacies learners. A researcher provided support and wrote up the findings from the projects.
An evaluation of the three years of innovations funding was published in June 2007.
In 2007 a new approach to supporting ICT innovation was developed. The focus was on providing advice and support on a local basis rather than having selected projects. Contractors were appointed to respond to local demand for help, with a fund for smaller grants to kickstart activity.
Alongside these two support programmes, research - Researching Online Learning with Adult Literacies Learners in Scotland - was carried out between September and December 2008 to establish what online learning activities were being used with adult literacies learners in Scotland.
