An adult literacy and numeracy curriculum framework for Scotland
The Adult Literacy and Numeracy Curriculum Framework for Scotland was launched in May 2005. Due to the size of the file content, the above online version of the framework document does not include the sample texts in appendices 6 and 7. These pages are available below as Word documents.
Appendix 6: Example texts (pages 167 - 173)
Appendix 7: Example texts (pages 176 - 194)
It is the result of a recommendation in the Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland Report (July 2001).
The new framework promotes the Scottish approach to adult literacy and numeracy learning and teaching. It provides a broad national framework within which local literacies providers can offer a curriculum to meet particular, rather than general, needs. It addresses both theoretical and practical aspects of the curriculum, helping tutors to develop and reflect on their work with adult literacies learners.
The work was carried out by the Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU) and the Department of Higher and Community Education at the University of Edinburgh. The framework was published in June 2005, and distributed through the Adult Literacies Partnerships.
The Curriculum Wheel
An interactive CD-ROM version of the Curriculum Wheel was developed to support the delivery of the framework. The CD-ROM has a range of resources, including video clips, and was launched at the ICT Innovations Conference on 7 June, 2007. The Wheel is a visual, interactive tool to help learners and tutors plan what they are going to learn, and to look back at the learning that has taken place.
The next stage is the development of a web-based version of the Wheel.
