Mhairi, a parentally dependant student studying in Scotland living at home
Mhairi is an 18 year old student, who lives at home with her mum and has just completed a course at her local college. She received an Educational Maintenance Allowance of £30 per week from her local college. She now wants to apply to university to do a degree in art and design but does not know if she can afford it.
As she will be studying a full-time Higher Education course in Scotland she will not have to pay course fees.
She will also receive a student loan and Young Student Bursary, but the amount she gets will depend on her parent's income. Mhairi's mother earns £20,000 per year, so Mhairi will receive a bursary and student loan bringing her total funding of £3, 782 per year.
