Update to the Disabled Student Stakeholders Group on the Needs Access and Inclusion Committee
- The Committee has now been established and will be meeting for the 3rd time on 18 December.
- The Committee have already discussed several areas of business, including the mapping studying on profound and complex needs and the baseline study on the assessment of students additional support needs.
- They are also looking closely at their parameters and role, and the strategic direction they would like to go in over the next year. To that end, much of the next meeting will be in an 'awayday' format.
- Further information about the Committee and its members can be found at http://www.sfc.ac.uk/about/about_us_committees_access.htm.
Profound and Complex Needs
- We continue to take forward work in this area with the Government - including meeting with college representatives and local Government.
- The key issues raised by the report were discussed by our Access and Inclusion Committee at their most recent meeting, and their views will feed into our work with the Government.
- We will also be responding to the petition, which is discussed elsewhere on the agenda
Equality Forward Study into the Assessment of Students Additional Support Needs
Equality Forward
- We continue to work with Equality Forward to take forward their workplan for the coming year, including the work of the former Scottish Disability Team, which has now transferred across to EF.
- We are particularly pleased that a very positive meeting recently took place between SFC, Equality Forward and the Equality Challenge Unit, which identified areas for collaboration in future.
- We have also taken forward discussions with the HE Disability Network and Equality Forward, and have all agreed some actions to take forward in this area over the next few months, for example on mental health issues.
