Part Time 1 Project

Part time 1 (PT1) is the first phase of the project work to look at part time student support for students in Scotland. PT1 was set up in March 2005 to improve the evidence base in relation to part time study in Scotland, and to clarify the definitions of "part time" used.

The project team undertook an initial desk-based exercise to improve the evidence base, by producing a set of papers covering:

Research was also commissioned to look at the motivations for, and barriers to, learning for people to study part time, drawing on existing research. The 'Looking to Learn: Investigating the Motivations to Learn and the Barriers Faced by Adults Wishing to Undertake Part-time Study' report and related 4 page research findings are now available to view and download from the web:

Following this desk-based exercise, the project team compiled an initial list of emerging issues which formed the basis of discussions with key stakeholders. The Part Time 1 Project Summary Paper sets out the key issues identified through PT1, and makes recommendations on how to take these forward. A summary of progress on these recommendations is available.
