A research report looking at firms' product market strategies and their use of workforce skills. This is based on 32 case studies in five sectors. The work was undertaken by Dr. Johnny Sung, Professor David Ashton and Dr. Arwen Raddon.

The Work-Readiness of Recruits from Colleges and Universities in Scotland

A research report looking at the preparedness for work of employees recruited directly from college and universities into their first job and produced by the Training and Employment Research Unit (TERU) at the University of Glasgow.

Work Skills in Scotland (2008)

This is a UK-wide survey which gathers workers' views on the skills they use at work. It provides evidence on the skills and qualifications required to get and do jobs, the use of computing and other generic skills, the extent of job autonomy given to employees and workers' experiences and attitudes towards training and learning at work.

Trade Union Representation and Skills Development (2008)The focus of this research, undertaken by Professor Andy Dickerson at the University of Sheffield, is whether trade union recognition influences skills investment within workplaces. The research used data from the 2004 and 2006 Employer Skills Survey to look at the relationship between trade union representation and investment in skills. It focused on recruitment difficulties, skills gaps and training provision. To do this, the use of robust statistical techniques was required.
The Labour Market Effects of Qualifications (2007)Study, completed for Futureskills Scotland by Professor Ian Walker and Dr Yu Zhu, that uses Scottish data to quantify the specific labour market benefits of qualifications to individuals.
