In August 2002, the Scottish Manufacturing Steering Group (SMSG) was reconvened to identify further actions required to support manufacturing, as appropriate. Under the independent leadership of Dr Chris Masters, the Scottish Manufacturing Steering Group published its report, Nurturing Wealth Creation: A Report by the Scottish Manufacturing Steering Group, on 24 February 2003.
The Executive issued it's response to the SMSG report in March 2003 and are taking forward a number of initiatives as a result.
An update of the Executive's response was issued on the 6th November 2003.
In March 2000, informed by the work of the original SMSG, Created in Scotland: The Way Forward for Scottish Manufacturing in the 21 st Century set out a framework for support for the manufacturing sector across Scotland.
The latest update of the progress towards the recommendations in Created in Scotland was published in February 2003.
