South of Scotland Objective 2 programme 2000-2006

Click on image for a larger map of the South Scotland 2000-2006 Programme areaThe South of Scotland programme will deliver some €175m (approx £119.4m) of support including an EU contribution of €73.7m (approx £50.3m). The region extends from the east to the west coast of Scotland, encompassing the whole of Scotland's common boundary with England, covering an area of 11,127 sq km.

With a population of just over 240,000, the South of Scotland Programme covers, essentially, a rural community.

The priorities used to strengthen the economic capacity of the region are:
