Summary of the Structural Funds in Scotland - 2000 - 2006 Programmes
The Scottish Government is the 'Managing Authority' for Structural Funds in Scotland and has overall responsibility for supervising the implementation; ongoing management: and effectiveness of the programmes.
Organisations in every part of Scotland are eligible to apply for at least some of the Structural Funds.
Which Funds can be applied for in each area depends on which of the three 'Objectives' applies to the area.
2000 - 2006 Programme Areas
Objective 1 - redevelops regions seriously lagging behind the EU average (this funding is currently available in the Highlands and Islands under a Special Transitional Programme).
Objective 2 - assists regions or areas affected by industrial decline and/or in the redevelopment of rural areas.
Objective 3 - helps improve the prospects of the long-term unemployed, young people and those who are socially excluded and also helps working people adjust to changes in the workplace.
Community Initiatives - in addition to the mainstream Programmes, Scotland participates in four Community Initiatives. The Initiatives often include pilot projects/test beds for activity which, if effective, are mainstreamed into the larger funds.
