Scotland's local councils deliver a wide
range of services for people facing the prospect of
unemployment. These include:
Advice - on consumer debt, welfare
rights and benefits, housing benefits, council tax
and reducing fuel bills;
Housing -housing services, council
tax arrears, housing benefit, accomodation,
homelessness and other related issues;
Adult and community education -
classes in a wide range of subjects, including help
to improve everyday skills, such as adult literacy;
also adult guidance;
Employment - check the council
vacancy lists;
Libraries - access to newspapers
and magazines for job search, computers for public
use, internet access, Open Learning access,
photocopying and fax services;
Social work services - support
services for families in crisis, mental health
issues, addiction, dependant care, disability
etc.
