Jobcentre Plus replaced the Benefits Agency and Employment Service in April 2002, and is part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The main benefits available include:

Jobseekers' Allowance - the main benefit for people who are unemployed. Provides financial help whilst looking for work. Claims should be made as soon as possible at a local Jobcentre.

Income Support - can be claimed by those who do not have enough money to live on. The amount available depends on circumstances, for example for single parents or those too ill to work.

Incapacity Benefit - is the main benefit for people who become sick and are unable to work.
