STUC and trade unions
STUC is a key participant in the PACE
framework. Trade unions have a significant role to play in
any situation involving a company in difficulty both in
terms of local intelligence and in managing the process
once redundancies become inevitable. It is important
therefore that structures exist at a local level to ensure
this intelligence and expertise is shared and utilised.
Some areas already have a trade union
representative on the local response team and others co-opt
their expertise as required. Much work has been done
recently by the STUC, with support from the Executive, to
raise awareness of PACE amongst their own trade union
members and to promote more effective trade union
involvement in PACE at a local level.
