The SSAC is now inviting applications for new members
Deadline: 5pm November 30, 2007
Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser
Scottish Science Advisory Committee
Appointment of New Members
The Scottish Science Advisory Committee (SSAC) is a body providing independent advice and recommendations on science strategy, policy and priorities to the Scottish Government's Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland (CSA). It is a broadly-based group, including both practitioners and users of scientific innovation. The CSA is looking to appoint up to 8 new members to help advise on a broad range of scientific issues and science-related policies that will contribute to growing the economy and raising quality of life in Scotland. Applications are sought from those with an expert understanding of issues connected with the performance of the science base and are particularly welcome from those in business and industry.
The appointments are not remunerated but members of the SSAC will receive reimbursement for all reasonable travel and subsistence costs, and any dependent carer expenses incurred whilst undertaking Committee business. Members will be expected to attend SSAC meetings (up to 4 per year) and in addition members must be able to commit time to SSAC work outside formal committee meetings. The typical workload would not be expected to exceed on average one day per month in total for most members, and in many cases would be less than this. Meetings will generally be held in Edinburgh, but on occasion they may be held elsewhere in Scotland.
Appointments will normally be for 3 years, with the possibility of re-appointment subject to evidence of effective performance and to satisfying the requirements of the person specification for the role at the time of re-appointment.
Committee proceedings will be open and transparent and any advice it provides to the Scottish Government will be published.
