Science policy - UK context
A number of key policy documents affecting the context of funding and policy on science in Scotland have been published by the UK Government in recent years.
The UK Government Spending Review 2004 sets out its Science and Innovation Investment Framework 2004-2014 with a significant real growth in funding of science over the coming decade. These extra resources will benefit Scotland if our universities, as in recent years, continue to win around 12% of such funding through the UK Research Councils.
To help meet this challenge, we have in our Spending Review 2004 provided very significant additions in real terms to the core funding of the Higher Education sector in Scotland, in order to help provide a highly competitive research infrastructure.
The Lambert Review of UK Business-University Collaboration was published in 2003 and the UK Government responded to this in the Framework document above. The Executive's response , "Business - University Collaboration in Scotland:The Scottish Executive's Response to the Lambert Review" was developed in partnership with a range of stakeholders and was published in March 2005.
