'Dual support' funding
Public funding for science research in Scottish Higher Education Institutes (HEIs), as in the rest of the UK, is through two main sources:
core funding for research infrastructure is provided by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC)
and funding for specific research projects is through the UK Government's Office for Science and Technology, via the UK Research Councils
Overall, this system is termed the 'dual support' funding system.
