Local Economic Development Strategies

Since their inception, a number of Forums had been thinking about formulating local economic development strategies. The National Guidelines 2 for Forums, published in August 2002, outlined how this could be achieved. In a number of areas this has involved updating or revising existing local strategies. However, in other areas Forums have provided the catalyst to start developing these strategies.

The challenge remains to develop local economic development strategies which are coherent with, and help deliver, the key national aims of A Smart Successful Scotland while providing effective and joined-up economic development input into the Community Planning process. In doing this, Forum partners will look to draw on any existing individual organisational strategy documents.
