From the outset in 2000, the LEF process has been
steered at a national level by two Ministerial Taskforces -
one for the area covered by Scottish Enterprise and one for
the area covered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise. In
December 2003, the taskforces took the decision that
standing meetings were no longer required but the taskforce
members remain key stakeholders in the process. This
decision was based on a realisation that forums were well
established in most areas and that partnership working has
become embedded. It was also noted that the strategic
nature of likely future work by forums (e.g. providing the
economic development dimension of community planning and
completion/implementation of strategies and action plans)
meant that there was less work for taskforces to do.
Ministers and the Executive remain committed in forums and
work to support them.
