National Guidelines

National Guidelines III
  • In November 2004, new guidance for Local Economic Forums was produced. This set out the key messages and future priorities for LEFs, taking into account achievements to date and the continuing challenges.

National Guidelines II
  • The August 2002 guidance proposed that Forums should consider issues of local strategic importance and develop a local economic development strategy which is coherent with, and contributes to achieving the key national aims and ambitions articulated in A Smart, Successful Scotland.
  • In doing so, Forums should be an integral part of the Community Planning process in their localities. Forums working effectively can provide the economic dimension of the community planning process.

National Guidelines I

Following extensive consultation, national guidelines on Forums were issued on 7th March 2001. Key messages:

  • Forums should agree a shared vision and action plan to achieve greater value for the considerable sums of public money spent on economic development.
  • The focus of activity should be to achieve genuine rationalisation of provision at the local level. They should tackle duplication as a means of releasing resources to fill gaps and create new opportunities
