Scoping stage

How does the scoping process work?

peterhead2The applicant should produce a scoping report (electronic plus 2 hardcopies) based on the outline design proposals and forwards it to the Energy Consents Unit along with a covering letter requesting a scoping opinion. The scoping request will be assigned to a case officer, who will then send copies of the scoping report to consultees requesting their comments. Following a three-week consultation period, the responses are gathered and all relevant comments are drafted into the final scoping opinion. This process informs the developer what should be included in the application when it is submitted and provides advice which helps developers to produce a high quality Environmental Statement based on the scoping opinion report.

What information should the scoping report contain?

We would normally expect the scoping report to give details of the type, size and location of the proposed development. Additionally, information such as planning, environmental, ecological, social and economic impacts should be included. Advice can be sought at any stage from the Scottish Executive.
