Urban Regeneration Companies

What are Urban Regeneration Companies?

Urban Regeneration Companies (URCs) are formal partnerships of key representatives from public and private sectors, which operate at arms' length from partner organisations to deliver physical, economic and social regeneration in a specific area.

URCs take a strategic overview of their area, and develop a shared set of objectives and outcomes in partnership with public and private partners and, most importantly, the communities themselves.

Established URCs

URCs have been established in six parts of Scotland to deliver focused, integrated regeneration strategies:

Future Scotland Debates

The Scottish Government alongside the six Urban Regeneration Companies (URCs) and Architecture and Design Scotland is sponsoring a series of high profile national discussions - the Future Scotland Debates - aimed to stimulate broad discussion and get the Scottish public and key stakeholders talking about the spaces and places they would like to create for the future.

The debates, which take place between April and September 2009, cover topics including: public space, education, housing, regeneration, sustainable places and health. Speakers include well-known experts and pundits from Scotland and elsewhere. The debates are being organised by the Lighthouse, Scotland's National Architecture and Design Centre. Admission to the debates is free.

For more information about the debates or to book a place visit the Lighthouse website.
