Key Indicators for Territorial Cohesion and Spatial Planning
The research programme of the European Observation Network on Territorial Development and Cohesion (ESPON) includes a project on Key Indicators for Territorial Cohesion and Spatial Planning (KITCASP) in which the Scottish Government is the lead stakeholder. The project, which was launched at a meeting in Luxembourg on 14 March, will explore the use of territorial data in developing and monitoring national spatial strategies and seek to identify key indicators of territorial cohesion, competitiveness and sustainable development to inform spatial planning at the national level.
The research is being undertaken by a transnational project team led by Ireland's National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis (NIRSA). The research team also includes spatial planning experts from the United Kingdom, Latvia, Iceland and Spain. A conference will be held in Edinburgh in September 2013 to consider the research findings.
