Fish Farming

Marine ScotlandFish farming has an important role to play in the Scottish economy, particularly in the rural economies of the islands, as well as the mainland of north and west Scotland.

To help separate the dual role that the Crown Estate had as landlord and regulator, the development of marine fishfarms (both shellfish and finfish) joined freshwater farms under the control of the planning system on 1 April 2007.

More information about planning in relation to fish farming is avaible from the Aquaculture Development pages on the Marine Scotland website.
