A study trip to Poundbury was organised by the Scottish Government and took place on May 13, 2009. Noel Isherwood from the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment and Simon Connibear of The Duchy of Cornwall Office provided presentations, a tour and a masterplanning masterclass.
The opportunity to attend the study visit was opened to every Scottish Planning and Architectural School whose courses had some urban design content. The reason for this was to allow a cross section of representatives, including both undergraduates and post graduates. There was also an invitation for academics to attend. In fact, the trip resulted in a ratio of 2:1 students to academics. The RTPI's Scottish Young Planner's network also received a number of places.
The feedback from the study strip has been overwhelmingly positive and everyone had been really grateful for the opportunity. In particular, the hands-on masterplanning class was very successful.
