National Indicators

During 1998/1999 Scottish Homes, as the then national co-ordinator of Care and Repair in Scotland, undertook development of a system for measuring performance.

In consultation with a working group it was agreed to focus on the development of a set of National Performance Indicators rather than to move towards the introduction of explicit national standards. Recommendations for potential indicators were subject to wide consultation with 85 bodies concerned with the funding and delivery of Care and Repair in Scotland, and the resulting set of 15 National Performance Indicators was introduced with effect from April 1999.

Performance Indicators were collated and reported for the first time between May and June 2000. In 2001 the term used changed from the National Performance Indicators to National Indicators to reflect concerns about the use of the figures to measure performance. Indicators are available on the Care and Repair website.

The development of indicators is ongoing, and will form part of the overall review of Care and Repair taking place. A revised format for 2007-08 information will be available soon.
