Review of Older People's Housing (ROOPH)
Scotland is undergoing significant demographic change, with a dramatic rise expected in the number of people aged over 60. There are also more homeowners and more people who want to remain in their own homes for longer. Housing provision support services need to adapt to the likely changes in demand.
The Scottish Government's Review of Older People's Housing (ROOPH) was undertaken between September 2005 and February 2008. Its remit was to scope current policies on older people's housing and support options in order to identify the future provision and requirements of older people in Scotland. The working group included representatives of the Scottish Government, Communities Scotland, local authorities, housing associations, private house builders and service users.
As part of the Review, the Centre of Housing Policy at the University of York carried out a 'Review of Sheltered Housing in Scotland'. The aim was to provide a picture of the current state of sheltered housing in Scotland and the extent to which it could meet at present and future needs of a changing client group. The research was published in January 2008.
Follow-up to ROOPH is based on two main themes: improvement of sheltered housing and better services for older people who wish to remain in their own homes.
