Independent Living

Keys

Disabled people across Scotland should have equality of opportunity at home and work, in education and in the social and civic life of the community.

The Scottish Government is committed to enabling disabled people and the elderly to live independently in their own homes wherever possible.

While housing support services are mainly provided through local authorities, housing associations and voluntary sector organisations, the Scottish Government is responsible for overall policy and our House Key section of the website offers an up-to-date directory of organisations that provide housing support services.

The Scottish Government’s policy ensuring that older people live in homes which are safe and secure and, where necessary, adapted to meet mobility needs is set out in the Older People’s Housing section. The adaptations and housing for disabled people sections provide detailed information about how people can adapt their homes for their specific housing needs.

The Housing Voluntary Sector Grant supports organisations in the housing and homelessness field.
