Review of Older People's Housing (ROOPH) Working Group
There are various issues affecting the future housing and support needs and options for older people in Scotland. The number of people aged over 60 is expected to rise dramatically in the coming years; there are more owner occupiers; people want to remain in their own homes longer. Housing provision and support services must therefore prepare themselves for this projected change in demands.
The Scottish Executive committed to carrying out research to look at future housing provision and support for older people in order better to inform discussion on future policy. In anticipation of this research work the SFHA drafted the 'Sheltered Housing's Future: SFHA Discussion Paper 9 in January 2005. This discussion paper along with other developing work will help inform policy development
The Review of Older People's Housing ( ROOPH ) Working Group was set up in September 2005 to inform decision making and make recommendations to the Minister for Communities. The remit of the working group is below.
Remit To scope current policies in older people's housing and support options in order to identify the future provision/requirements of older people in Scotland. Likely tasks include: - develop a research brief to scope the current position to inform recommendations for future policy development and action; and
- develop policy on the remodelling of current housing stock in order to meet short - medium term demands and preferences
