Scottish Secure Tenancy

Scottish Secure Tenancy (SST)

Tenants of local authorities and housing associations (known as Registered Social Landlords) will, in most cases, have a Scottish Secure Tenancy (SST). This came into force on September 30, 2002.

From this date tenants have the statutory rights of the new tenancy. These include:

  • enhanced rights of succession
  • the extension of the right to repair
  • rights to compensation for improvements

There are model tenancy agreements for the SST and short SST. The individual tenancy agreements produced by landlords will, however, reflect local circumstances.

Some tenants will have a short Scottish Secure Tenancy agreements, which can be given in limited circumstances.
