Landlords renting property in the private sector (and
the interests of tenants who occupy these properties)
To consider options to:
- Ensure that landlords and tenants are clear about
their rights and obligations
- Ensure that landlords invest in their properties
and maintain them in good condition
- Ensure that tenants have access to effective
remedies where their landlord fails to maintain their
property
- Ensure local authorities develop appropriate
strategic policy frameworks and intervention strategies
to promote housing quality in the private rented
sector
- Ensure that local authority powers are adequate and
effective in addressing housing quality failures in the
private rented sector
- Improve the incentives to landlords to invest in
maintenance of the fabric of their properties
- Address any equalities issues in respect of housing
quality in the private rented sector
