Getting involved - games time

The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 will be the single biggest event ever to take place in Scotland. It is estimated that in excess of 15,000 Games-time volunteers will be required to perform a variety of tasks from stewarding of the events, to welcoming our visitors, to some of the more obscure tasks that help to ensure the successful staging the Games.

The Games Organising Committee has overall responsibility for the volunteering aspect of the Games during Games-time.

Getting involved in wider volunteering opportunities

There will be other opportunities for volunteering before and after the Games through which we want to create a lasting legacy. We are working with a range of partners to consider how we can support formal and informal opportunities for different sections of the population.

The Games also provide a chance for the community to come together. Local Authorities will have their own thoughts and ideas on how their communities can benefit from hosting the Games. We want to inspire people across the length and breadth of the country to get involved and enjoy the range of activities that will be available.

The range of legacy programmes outlined in A games legacy for Scotland can be enjoyed across the country. The Legacy programmes are for all young and old, giving opportunities for inter-generational work that will help strengthen greater understanding in our communities.
