For Everyone
July 23, 2014 will mark the beginning of 11 days of world-class sport in Scotland. It will be the pinnacle of a series of major events taking place in Scotland over the next five years.
These events give Scotland an enormous range of possibilities across so many different areas. Five years out they give us the opportunity to reflect on what we can each do to improve our health and well being. A games legacy for Scotland focuses on getting people more physically active by using the excitement of these events to motivate and inspire through the Active Nation campaign. Linked to this is the Community Sports Hubs programme, which aims to make the most of new and existing facilities by creating a space for the community to come together and take part in activities.
Although health is a key focus, we should not lose sight of the other legacy programmes which individuals and communities can get involved in. There will be a range of cultural programmes on offer that will help us showcase the best of Scotland to the world, plans to ensure that Scotland is ahead of the game in ensuring a sustainable future, opportunities for our businesses to flourish and chances for our most disadvantaged people to play their part in ensuring that the Games leave behind a meaningful lasting legacy.
