London 2012
Securing benefits to Scotland from London 2012
The Scottish Government hopes that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be successful.
The effects and benefits of the London 2012 Games have the potential to go much further than those competing. The Scottish Government continue its engagement with the London 2012 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and UK Government to ensure it can secure all opportunities available to Scotland from the 2012 Games.
The Scottish Government is represented on the London 2012 Nations and Regions Group, set up by LOCOG in 2005 to ensure that all areas of the UK benefit from the 2012 Games.More information on this and our Scottish Group structure to take forward work in this area can be found in the Scottish Steering Group WebPages.
Further information on the London 2012 Games can be found on the London 2012 website( www.london2012.org).
Synergies with the Glasgow 2014
Now that Scotland has won the right to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Scottish Government is developing a Games Benefits and Legacy Plan which will ensure that both the 2012 and 2014 Games help contribute towards achieving Scotland's strategic objectives to make Scotland ' wealthier and fairer; smarter; healthier; safer and stronger; and greener'. This is being developed as part of a wide consultation and will build on the work already being done within Scotland to maximise the benefits of London 2012 but with a predominant focus on 2014 and beyond.
See our webpage on Glasgow 2014 for more details on the development of this Legacy Plan.
