Performance monitoring

Dairy cowsPerformance monitoring/Benchmarking

Annual payment rate: standard cost £320

Undertake additional inspection and monitoring to collate performance indicators, analyse all significant animal health and welfare related observations arising from inspections and implement an action plan to measure performance.

The aim of this option is to allow you, with your vet, to use specific benchmarking indicators to:

  • Highlight and analyse health and welfare issues on your farm that may be preventing a herd or flock reaching its true potential and propose soultions
  • Monitor progress in health and welfare on your farm over time and demonstrate the impact of the farm's AHWM Programme
  • Benchmark health and welfare on your farm against similar farms across Scotland
  • Feed information back into your farm's annually revised Animal Health and Welfare Management Plan
  • Assist you in making other management decisions
Measuring performance

You must record Benchmarking measures on an on-going basis. You must then, using the Benchmarking Record Sheets, periodically collate information into monthly, quarterly (Jan-March, April-June, July-Sept, Oct-Dec) or annual periods as per the Benchmarking guidance and discussion with your veterinary practice.

Please see the Guidance for Farmers and Guidance for Veterinary Practices for full information.

You must pass the Benchmarking Record Sheets to your veterinary practice at least once a year for the data to be entered onto the Benchmarking Database.

The database will calculate standardised Benchmarking Indicators that can be used to compare progress over time and performance against similar farm types. It will also be able to produce graphs and tables that can be exported to a Benchmarking Report for the farmer to take away.
