Introduction
The EU Animal By-Products Regulation (1774/2002) ( http://europa.eu.int) came into force in Scotland on 1 October 2003, and among other measures prohibits the burial or burning of fallen stock on-farm.
Approved handling premises
This web section provides details of premises that are approved for handling various types of animal by-products in Scotland, and details of the type of activities covered by a general approval (as issued by the Executive on 30 September 2003) for businesses not covered by an individual approval.
Novel methods of disposal for use of Animal By-Products
Guidlines for application for New Alternative Methods of Disposal for use of Animal By-Products under EU Animal By-Products Regulation (1774/2002) are available on the European Commission website. Applications should be made to SEERAD, Room 358, Pentland House, 47 Robb,s Loan, Edinburgh EH14 1TY.
Fallen Stock
Details of the National Fallen Stock Collection Service, which has been set up in response to the burial ban set out in the above regulations, are also given in this section. The scheme is open to all farmed livestock owners and businesses, and is subsidised by the UK Rural Affairs Ministers until November 2007.
