Wild Bird Survey

The Government and State Veterinary Service is enhancing their veterinary surveillance of wild birds. While the threat to the UK is still low, we are working with other EU member states to gather information on Avian Influenza. If you see unusually large groups of dead birds, please call 08459-335577, the GB wide helpline.

You will be referred to the nearest Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) laboratory. Specialists at the labs will then make an assessment on what further action, if any, should be taken. Out of hours, your call will be handled by your local Animal Health Divisional Office.

It is extremely unlikely that any birds you come across will have Avian Influenza. However, they could have other bird diseases, so you should not handle them except as advised by the experts at SAC.
