Current movement rules

From 3 November 2008 to 30 April 2009 the main movement rules are as follows:
  • Livestock movement within GB are generally unrestricted.
  • Livestock movements to Scotland from BTV8 Restricted zones or free areas elsewhere in Europe need only comply with normal import rules.
  • Livestock movements to Scotland from bluetongue restricted zones other than for BTV8 must comply fully with the bluetongue movement rules in force. These are described in the movement summary for animals coming to Scotland.
  • Livestock movements from Scotland to other BTV8 Protection Zones need only comply with normal export rules.
  • Livestock movements from Scotland to BTV8 Surveillance Zones, bluetongue Restricted Zones for other serotypes or to areas free of bluetongue, must comply fully with the bluetongue movement rules in force. These are described in the movement summary for animals leaving Scotland.
  • Post Movement Notification Documents will no longer be required.
After 30 April 2009 the main movement rules will be as follows:
  • Livestock movement within GB are generally unrestricted except that for sheep and cattle over 3 months.
  • Animals moving from Shetland to elsewhere in Scotland must be vaccinated before moving.
  • Animals on Scottish farms must be vaccinated before moving off-farm (unless going to slaughter before 6 months).
  • In all cases, sheep and cattle moving to Scotland must be vaccinated within 14 days of arrival unless documentary evidence is available that the animals were vaccinated against BTV8 before movement.
