Stakeholder meetings provide a mechanism for direct communication between the Scottish Government and stakeholders, particularly in disseminating current issues to their membership and providing a sounding board to inform policy development and implementation.
A well established Animal Health and Welfare stakeholder group meets regularly to discuss a range of issues but where a more focussed approach is required sub-groups may be established to deal with specific issues. An Ornithological Experts Group and Industry Stakeholders Group has been formed to deal with issues surrounding avian influenza. The minutes from these meetings can be accessed at the links below.

In addition to these meetings, an avian influenza seminar for key operational partners was held at Birnam Arts and Conference Centre on 25 October 2006. The aim of the day was to brief operational partners on the current state of play and to offer them a forward looking view on their likely role in the disease control response in the light of lessons learned from the Orkney case ruled out by laboratory testing at suspicion stage and the positive identification of H5N1 in a swan found in Cellardyke, Fife. A seminar report provides an overview of the day.
