GUIDANCE FOR USING THE SPREADSHEETS

This Excel spreadsheet has been developed as one means for you to record the data required under the NVZ Action Plans, a separate CD ROM which can carry out a wider range of calculations is also available - please contact the Water Environment Division ( waterenvironment@scotland.gsi.gov.uk) for a copy.

The spreadsheet templates follow exactly the same format as those in the Guidance for Farmers packs and are designed to assist you in compiling your return. The spreadsheets are only designed to undertake basic calculations, although they should assist in keeping accurate records. Your use of these spreadsheets is purely voluntary as they are only designed as an aid.

Please note the following specific advice about these tables:

1) The tables will not automatically add new rows if you exceed the number of rows already created.

2) The right hand columns of "l" and "m" in "Table G" will not automatically cumulate the total. This is because you may be recording more than one field on the table. You should also allow two or three rows between each field to enable you to return to a field later in the year.

3) The figure mentioned in "Table G" (N available in Spring following livestock manure applications) does not carry the available N forward to the relevant columns of Tables A, B or H automatically and must be carried over manually.

4) You should be aware not to put a figure in both "a" and "b" columns of "Table C" where a field is split between grass and non grass use.

5) You should copy the spreadsheet and use the copy as a safeguard in case anything happens, such as a formula being deleted by accident.

6) If you reach the bottom of the table, you are advised to print off the table as is, or save as a separate file, then delete the data you have entered and start again from the top. Please be careful not to delete formulas by mistake, and ensure that you only delete what you entered. A more experienced user of Excel can insert rows and copy the appropriate formula downwards.

If you have any problems or queries regarding these spreadsheets please contact the Water Environment Division on 0131 244 0189 or by email at waterenvironment@scotland.gsi.gov.uk.
