The Scottish Government employs two Meat and Livestock Inspectors who work closely with the Meat Hygiene Service (MHS), Meat and Livestock Commission (MLC), and all those involved in the meat industry on:

- Beef Carcase Classification
- Pig Carcase Classification
- Deadweight Price Reporting
- Fallen Stock
- Beef Labelling Scheme
- Aids to Private Storage
