Action 44
"In collaboration with Scottish Natural Heritage and the
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the Executive
will fund a specialist adviser post to help farmers and
their advisers ensure that environmental schemes deliver
the best possible levels of biodiversity."
Progress
This Action will not be implemented in terms as the
public recruitment process failed to identify a suitable
candidate.
However, the overarching objective of helping ensure
that environmental schemes generally deliver the best
possible levels of biodiversity is being pursued in a
number of other ways. For example, in 2004 SEERAD and SNH
jointly commissioned SAC to assess best practice within
environmental schemes operated by farmers and crofters. The
final report "Agri-Environment Case Studies - Improving
Advice on Practical Habitat Management" was produced in
December 2004.
A number of other activities are summarised in the
Scottish Biodiversity Strategy's Rural Land Use
Implementation Plan. Details of the various Actions under
the Implementation Plan will be available on the SEERAD
website from April 2005.
