Action 40

Action 40

"The Executive will develop a system of Land Management Contracts, setting up a steering group to oversee the work. This will include:

  • reviewing the experience of whole farm approaches in other EU countries;
  • establishing an action plan and timetable for the consultation, development and introduction of Land Management Contracts in Scotland;
  • agreeing with the Commission how a whole farm support scheme can meet the necessary regulatory and auditing requirements;
  • exploring with the UK Government, other EU countries and the Commission changes to the CAP which would, in the medium term, allow for the more comprehensive introduction of whole farm support."

Progress

The Land Management Contract Working Group was set up to take forward the proposals outlined in the Strategy. Two detailed reports have been published and links to these are given below.

The proposed Land Management Contract (LMC) Menu Scheme was approved by the Commission in February 2005.

Further Work

A consultation exercise, completed in September 2004, invited views on the proposed Land Management Contract Menu Scheme as the first step in the development and implementation of Land Management Contracts (LMCs). A summary report of the consultation responses is available via the link given below. Tier II measures are expected to be introduced in 2005.
