Action 15
"The practice of finished animals, especially sheep,
being sold on two or three times must stop. Stock should go
direct from finishing to processor or, if sold at auction,
then straight to the processor. Producers will then be
better able to understand the requirements of the
processors and to gain the full price for their animals.
The Executive will discuss with the industry how to achieve
this."
Progress
The implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy
(CAP) reform, particularly the decoupling of payments,
means that producers will be encouraged to produce more
directly for the market. As a consequence, finished animals
are more likely to be sold on only where it is commercially
advantageous to do so.
