7th and 8th April

In a unique event SEERAD hosted the spring meeting of the UK Advisory Committee on Organic Standards (ACOS) in Edinburgh. The meeting was held in Victoria Quay on the 8th April.

ACOS which was established in October 2003 is an advisory non departmental public body Photo of visitors to Tarrylaw Farm

for advising on matters relating to standards, certification and research relevant to organic food and farming. ACOS serves the whole of the UK. There are currently 3 Scottish representatives on the committee.

SEERAD also organised a day of events between members of ACOS and Scottish producers on the 7th of April, the day prior to the meeting, this consisted of a farm walk at Tarrylaw farm, Balbeggie,(see photo) followed by a seminar held at Murrayshall Hotel, Perth, ending the day with an evening reception at Edinburgh Castle.

The event gave ACOS a better understanding of the organic standards and marketing issues that Scottish organic producers face.

The ACOS members and the Scottish producers felt the day was very informative and enjoyable.
