1ST Organic Report - March 2004

The 1st Organic Annual Report was published on 30th March 2004. The Report charts the progress made in implementing the commitments made in the Organic Action Plan of 2003.

The Annual Report 2004 contains updates on:

  • The revised Organic Aid Scheme:the new scheme opened for applications on 1st May 2004. The revised scheme offers greater and more sustained support for organic farmers and crofters planning to convert to organic production. The proposals were subject to a consultation exercise in 2003 and have been developed in conjunction with the Organic Stakeholders' Working Group.

  • Organic Research: a scoping study has been commissioned to identify key research gaps in the organic sector. A study into market penetration shall deliver a snapshot of the Scottish organic market and the market share of Scottish organic produce.

  • Organic Standards: an update of the Scottish Executive's contribution to the Compendium of UK Organic Standards and the creation of the Advisory Committee on Organic Standards.

  • Healthy Eating: the role organics can play in securing a healthier and more nutritious future for Scotland.

  • Marketing: the role of marketing grants and opportunities for public procurement.

  • Organic Aquaculture: developments in aquaculture over the last 12 months.
