4 Creative industries cannot be easily defined using standard industrial codes. For consistency across the UK, we have adopted the same approach as the UK Department of Culture Media and Sport ( DCMS) in using a measure that takes pre-specified proportions of the relevant industry groups. We recognise that the picture this gives is incomplete. The classification codes are being updated and Scottish Government statisticians are working with the DCMS to ensure that they more accurately reflect creative industries as they are today.
